1894 plantation of Scots Pine and pre 1840's mixed woodlands Rhododendron ponticumThese stands occupy around 47 ha and have not been managed for at least 40 years. Any activity within the stands has been confined to selective harvesting of the best trees. Although the area of Scots Pine was afforestation, much of the area predates the 1841-42 OS map, which is presently the earliest map available. At that time as is the case now, the stand was made up of both broadleaf and conifer species.
