On this map of Ireland you can see Sillahertane Estate represented with a red dot. This area of Ireland has a hyper-atlantic climate, which can be described as mild and very wet. Thanks to this climate and the local geology many rare and very rare species can be found at Sillahertane.
One species that sadly is no longer found is the Corncrake (crex crex), which could once be heard in Spring when the males arrived on their annual migration from Africa. Numbers have declined in Ireland and the UK due mainly to earlier cutting of grass on farms
