Aerial view of part of Sillahertane Estate

On this map of Ireland you can see Sillahertane Estate represented with a red dot. This area of Ireland has a hyper-atlantic climate, which can be described as mild and very wet. Thanks to this climate and the local geology many rare and very rare species can be found at Sillahertane.

One species that sadly is no longer found is the Corncrake (crex crex), which could once be heard in Spring when the males arrived on their annual migration from Africa. Numbers have declined in Ireland and the UK due mainly to earlier cutting of grass on farms. For More

On the map below you can see the entire property (c. 572 ha). By using your mouse you can point to different parts of the map for more details and links.

The view in the aerial photo above is looking from the South East at the South Western corner of the property, where the old woodlands along with the various building and improved land are.

Kerry International Airport is just beyond Killarney and will take around one hours drive. Killarney itself is a major tourist destination and a wide range of activities and services can be found there. After twenty minutes driving one passes through the village of Kilgarvan and heads on towards Kenmare, which takes another ten minutes. Kenmare is a beautifully laid out town that boasts restaurants of the highest standards. Kilgarvan itself has five pubs, all with their own characters. Live music in Paudie's every Tuesday, dart boards or pool tables in all of them. Cork, Ireland's second largest city can be reached within one hour and twenty minutes.

Coolea is situated in Gaeltacht where many of the people speak Irish, which can often be heard, along with the live Irish music, at the Top of Coom pub just a mile or two from Sillahertane House. A pool table and dart board are also available for costumers at the pub.
